Three Tigers Earn NFCA All-Region Recognition
May 19, 2022 | Softball
Ali Blanchard, Alexis Laudenslager and Adrienne Chang were named to the NFCA third team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, the softball coaches association announced on Thursday.
All three were first-team All-Ivy League honorees, with Laudenslager as the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year. Princeton had three of the seven Ivy Leaguers on the NFCA all-region teams.
Laudenslager leads the Ivy in ERA (1.93) and opponents' batting average (.181), and is second to Blanchard in strikeouts (138). Laudenslager is the only pitcher to be top-three in the league in all three of the pitching triple crown categories, with her 11 wins third along with the league-best ERA and second-most strikeouts. Laudenslager has thrown two no-hitters this season, a seven-inning no-no against Brown on March 20 and a five-inning feat at Yale on April 17, becoming the first Princeton pitcher in program history to solo no-hit two Ivy opponents in the same season.Â
Chang's .368 average was third-best in the league, while standing fifth in the league in slugging percentage (.547) and fourth in on-base percentage (.429). Blanchard, while hitting .306 at the plate, is top-five in the league in several pitching categories, including leading the league in strikeouts (151), standing third in opponents' batting average (.203) and fourth in wins (10). Blanchard's 151 Ks are the most in a season for any Tiger pitcher since Kristen Schaus '08, who had 189 in 2008, and she is the seventh pitcher in program history to have a 150-strikeout season.Â
The Tiger trio and teammates will open the NCAA regional at No. 4 Arkansas on Friday at 6 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
