Men’s Tennis Set to Battle Arizona in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament
May 02, 2022 | Men's Tennis
Full Bracket
INDIANAPOLIS – The Princeton University men's tennis team will take on the University of Arizona Wildcats in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Friday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Cary, North Carolina.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 18-8, including a 6-4 conference record. Princeton was undefeated at home, and won six consecutive matches during the month of March.
The Tigers will be appearing in the NCAA tournament for the ninth time in school history, and first since 2015. Should the Tigers advance, they will face the winner of No. 15 ranked University of North Carolina and the Naval Academy on Saturday, May 7th.
"I'm so happy for our team and particularly the seniors to compete in the post-season this year," said Head Coach Billy Pate. "We have all but two of our starters from the 2020 team when play was halted due to the pandemic. Naturally, it's been a tough couple of years for everyone, but with the ivies not competing last year and then battling through injuries and covid this year, it validates their perseverance. It's also an incredible strong statement for our league to have four teams qualify in post-season - a first in the history of Ivy men's tennis."
"We'll have a challenge on our hands with Arizona. They were the Pac-12 regular season champs and we know their personnel well. We look forward to this opportunity."
