Princeton to Compete in Garden State Grapple at Prudential Center in Newark
August 31, 2022 | Wrestling
As part of a national schedule that includes four opponents from the Big Ten and two from the Pac-12 in addition to the EIWA slate, the Princeton wrestling team will take part in the Garden State Grapple presented by Spartan Combat, set for Dec. 4 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Two of the Tigers' four duals against Big Ten opponents will take place at the Garden State Grapple, which will bring four EIWA teams (Princeton, Binghamton, Drexel, Penn) and four Big Ten teams (Indiana, Michigan State, Rutgers, Wisconsin) to the event.
"We are thrilled to be a part of the Garden State Grapple," Princeton wrestling coach Chris Ayres said. "The teams in the event are some of the most recognizable in the sport and I expect that this will draw a great crowd. New Jersey has some of the best wrestling in the country, so it makes sense to bring in some great teams for this event."
Princeton will take on Wisconsin at 2 p.m. and Michigan State at 4 p.m. in its two duals as part of the event. Wisconsin was ranked No. 7 in the final NWCA coaches poll and Michigan State as No. 15 with Princeton at No. 22.
Overall, the Garden State Grapple will feature 45 previous NCAA Tournament qualifiers, including six from the Tigers. Patrick Glory (125) and Quincy Monday (157) return for their senior year after helping Princeton make history with two NCAA finalists in the same year. Marshall Keller (149), Travis Stefanik (184), Luke Stout (197) and Matt Cover (HWT) are also returning NCAA qualifiers from 2022.
