PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team opens the 2022 season at the Towson Tournament inside SECU Arena, when it takes on Morgan State and Towson on Friday, September 2, followed by Radford on Saturday, September 3.
Led By A Legend
The Tigers are led by Head Coach Sabrina King, who enters her 11th season as head coach at Princeton. She's led the Tigers to four Ivy titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019), and been named Ivy League Coach of the Year on three occasions (2015, 2016, 2019). King has amassed an impressive 158-78 record, and an 88-36 record while coaching 43 All-Ivy League honorees, including 20 named to the First Team. She was also assistant coach with the Tigers for seven seasons, and won Ivy titles in 2004 and 2007. As a student-athlete at Princeton, King won Ivy League Championships in 1997, 1999, and 2000, and was named the 1999 Ivy League Player of the Year.
All-Ivy League Honorees
Four returners earned All-Ivy League honors in 2021, with Elena Montgomery and Avery Luoma collecting First Team honors, Lindsey Kelly earning Second Team honors, and Dames Honorable Mention. Dames was also the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2019, and was named Second Team All-Ivy League.
A National Leader
Kelly was one of the best setters in the nation in 2021. She ranked sixth in NCAA Division I and led the Ivy League in assists per set with 11.44, and led the conference in total assists with 892. Kelly handed out more than 50 assists on six occasions, and also tied for the team-high in service aces with 21.
2021 Statistical Leaders
Of returners, Montgomery led Princeton in kills per set (3.94), Kelly in assists (11.44) and service aces (0.27), Dames in digs (4.73), and Mariah Haislip in blocks (1.19).
Championship Experience
The Tigers' Class of 2023 brings championship experience, as Montgomery, Kelly, Luoma, and Dames along with Melina Mahood and Olivia Schewe were part of the team that won the Ivy title and went to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.
The Newcomers
Princeton welcomes three talented newcomers to its 2022 squad; Valerie Nutakor, an OH/RS from Forsyth, Illinois, Ella Bunde, a DS/Libero from Leawood, Kansas, and Lucia Scalamandre, a MB from Topanga, California.
All-Time Series
The Tigers lead the all-time series with Morgan State, 1-0. The only meeting between the two programs took place on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Towson Tournament with Princeton defeating the Bears, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-11).
While Towson defeated the Tigers, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) in the most recent match between the two teams on Saturday, September 4, 2021, Princeton holds a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series.
Princeton and Radford are 1-1 all-time, with the last matchup taking place on Friday, September 4, 2015, in Washington, D.C., at the George Washington Tournament. The Tigers came out on top, 3-2 (25-16, 13-25, 29-31, 25-18, 16-14).

The Tigers won the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) and went to the NCAA Tournament in 2021, going 26-5 overall and 12-4 in CAA play.

Radford is 1-2 on the season, and fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-19) to IUPUI in its most recent contest on Saturday, August 27.
