Martinkus Breaks 1-Meter Record at Navy Tri-Meet With Notre Dame

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Charlotte Martinkus of the Princeton University Princeton women's swimming & diving team continued her stellar freshman campaign Friday afternoon at Lejeune Hall, setting new school and pool records on the 1-meter board on the first day of the Tigers' tri-meet at Navy with Notre Dame.

Martinkus earned a score of 328.50 on the 1-meter board, setting a new program record and besting her previous school record of 322.50. Martinkus' score was also a pool record at Lejeune Hall, and helped her earn a first-place finish in the event, along with an NCAA Zone cut.
Princeton opened the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Sabrina Johnston, Heidi Smithwick, Amelia Liu and Ela Noble finished in 1:30.58.
In the 400 IM the Tigers earned a 1-2-3 sweep, with Ellie Marquardt touching the wall at 4:16.81 to finish first and earn an NCAA B cut, Emily Appleton finishing second in 4:17.64 and Meg Wheeler third in 4:19.47.
Nikki Venema earned a first-place finish and earned an NCAA B cut in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:46.35, and Isabella Korbly took first in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 54.15.
The Tigers also earned the top-two finishes in the 50 freestyle, with Johnston touching the wall at 23.00 and Amelia Liu at 23.11.
In the 400 medley relay, the Tigers finished both second and third. The quartet of Korbly, Brown, Venema and Johnston took second in 3:39.55, and the team of Alexa Pappas, Margaux McDonald, Liu and Noble third in 3:42.01.
In the 100 breaststroke, Liza Brown finished third with a time of 1:01.77, while Smithwick also finished third with a time of 2:00.26.
