Women's Tennis Opens ITA Kickoff Weekend Against No. 12 California

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's tennis team opens play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend on Friday, January 27 at 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PST against No. 12 California in Berkeley, California
The ITA Kickoff Weekend is brings together the top 60 men's and women's college tennis teams for a weekend of intense competition. Hosted by 15 men's and women's programs from across the country, the 120 teams play for the opportunity to be one 15 teams from gender advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Not just playing for pride, the stakes will be high for Kickoff Weekend play as all 120 competing teams are looking to be just one of the 15 teams from each gender to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
A win over the 12th-ranked Bears would see the Tigers face No. 25 Georgia Tech or San Diego in the Championship or Consolation match on Saturday, January 28.
Princeton is 3-0 on the season, and defeated Big Ten opponent Penn State in its most recent match on Sunday, January 23, 6-1. Ranked players for the Tigers include No. 4 Daria Frayman, along with Frayman and Grace Joyce at No. 26 in doubles.
No. 12 California is 1-0 on the season, after earning a 1-0 win over UC Santa Barbara in its season opener in Berkeley, California, on Saturday, January 21. In the ITA rankings, Jessica Alsola is ranked No. 16 in singles and Hannah Viller Moeller No. 93, while in doubles Alsola and Katja Wiersholm rank No. 15 and Alsola and Valentina Ivanov rank No. 51.
No. 25 Georgia Tech has a 1-0 record in 2023, defeating Georgia State 7-0 in its season opener in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, January 20. Ranked players for the Yellowjackets include No. 10 Carol Lee, No. 104 Alejandra Cruz, No. 109 Mahak Jain and No. 111 Kylie Bilchev, while in doubles Lee and Kate Sharabura check in at No. T-53.
San Diego received votes in the most recent ITA team rankings, and is 0-1 on the season after falling just short to No. 14 USC, 4-3, on Saturday, January 21, in Los Angeles, California. The Toreros feature Solymar Colling, who checks in at No. 29 in the ITA singles rankings, and Kailey Evans who ranks No. 41. The team of Evans and Elizabeth Goldsmith also ranks No. T-53 in the doubles rankings.
