Tigers Close Weekend With Win over Brown
October 21, 2023 | Women's Ice Hockey
Emerson O'Leary had a goal in the first period, Sarah Fillier added one each in the second and the third, and the No. 14-ranked Princeton women's hockey team was a 3-0 winner over Brown on Saturday as the first weekend of the ECAC Hockey season came to a close.
In her third career start and second in as many nights, rookie netminder Uma Corniea had her second career shutout, making all 17 stops as Princeton outshot Brown 64-35 overall and 37-17 on goal.
O'Leary opened the scoring with five-plus minutes to go in the opening period, freeing a puck from a jam along the boards and skating it to the crease where she worked it home.
Fillier pushed the Tiger lead to 2-0 less than five minutes into the second period as she finished off a series of passes across the front of the Brown goal from Mia Coene and Issy Wunder.
Fillier's empty-netter with less than two minutes to go in the game made it 3-0 and pushed her goal total on the new season to a team-best four. The goals moved her up a spot on Princeton's all-time points list, now in seventh with 157 and two back of former teammate Carly Bullock '20 with 159. Now with 67 career goals and staying at 90 career assists, Fillier remained in 15th place on the program's career goals list and fourth on the assist list.
Princeton will head out on the road for the first time this season, making the trip to St. Lawrence and Clarkson as the ECAC Hockey season continues next weekend.
