Kuehl Scores, Olnowich Makes 23 Saves as No. 12 Princeton Draws Union
December 02, 2023 | Women's Ice Hockey
Jane Kuehl scored less than three minutes into Saturday's game against Union at Baker Rink, but Union netminder Sophie Matsoukas, a day short of a year after making 59 saves to beat Princeton in Schenectady, made 44 to keep it a 1-1 draw against the No. 12-ranked Tigers.
Of the six times in the junior Matsoukas's Union career that she's made 44 or more saves, three have come against Princeton, including all three of her career starts against the Tigers.
Kuehl's goal came after Teja Gatfield won a puck behind Princeton's goal and sent a short pass along the boards to Kate Monihan, who flipped it ahead to Kuehl inside Princeton's defensive blue line. Kuehl took it from there, using a screen from sister Annie Kuehl entering Princeton's attacking zone to set up a one-on-one with Matsoukas.
Princeton outshot Union 67-50 overall and 45-24 on goal, but Matsoukas made the other 44 stops while counterpart Jennifer Olnowich made 23 saves to help keep it even.
Princeton will head to LIU for a non-league game Tuesday at 2 p.m. before closing out the 2023 portion of the schedule with a visit from Quinnipiac next Saturday at 3 p.m. at Baker Rink.

An early one for the Tigers today as Jane Kuehl goes nearly coast-to-coast to get the scoring started!
