Women's Swimming & Diving Wins 24th Ivy League Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's swimming & diving won its 24th Ivy League title and its second in three seasons Saturday night at DeNuznio Pool, amassing 1480 points to secure a first-place finish.
Princeton finished ahead of Harvard, who was second with 1254 points, and Yale who came in third with 115.85.
Senior Nikki Venema received the second High Point Swimmer of the Meet award of her career, also winning it at the 2020 Ivy League Championships. Competing at the first Ivy League Championships, Charlotte Martinkus was named High Point Diver of the Meet.
The Championship is the second under Head Coach Bret Lundgaard, as he also led Princeton to the Ivy title in the 2019-20 season. In total, the Tigers won 12 event titles throughout the meet.
Venema earned the second 100 freestyle title of her career, touching the wall at 48.33 and earning an NCAA B cut along with a new program record. The previous school record of 48.37 belonged to Lisa Boyce '14. Sabrina Johnston took second in 49.09, also an NCAA B cut and the fourth-fastest time in program history. Ela Noble swam in the B final, finishing first in 49.50 and moving up to No. 6 on the Tigers' all-time list.
200 Breaststroke
With an NCAA B cut time of 2:11.38, Margaux McDonald won the first 200 breaststroke title of her career and set a new school recorrd, while Eliza Brown finished third in 2:12.60, also earning an NCAA B cut.
3-Meter Diving
Martinkus won her second title of the meet, finishing with a score of 304.95 to earn the win on 3-meter. Maddie Seltzer finished sixth, earning a score of 292.80.
400 Freestyle Relay
Along with winning an Ivy title, the team of Venema, Johnston, Noble and Amelia Liu earned a new school and pool record with a time of 3:15.25. The previous school record of 3:17.11 was set at the 2020 Ivy League Championships by Venema, Ellie Marquardt, Christina Bradley and Liu.
200 Backstroke
Princeton sent three to the A Final of the 200 backstroke, with Meg Wheeler finishing third and earning an NCAA B cut with a time of 1:56.08 and moved up to No. 4 on Princeton's all-time list, and Isabella Korbly finishing fifth in 1:57.56. With a time of 1:58.76, Liza Whitmire finished seventh.
1650 Freestyle
With a time of 16:34.50, Megan Reich finished fifth and produced the seventh-fastest time in program history while Emily Appleton came in sixth after touching the wall at 16:35.55. Appleton also moved up to No. 7 on the Tigers' all-time list. Nathalie Valdman finished 15th in 17:09.82.
200 Butterfly
Heidi Smithwick swam in the B final, and finished second with a time of 1:59.67. Alexa Pappas finished seventh in 2:03.41, and Jaime Chen finished eighth in 2:04.84.
