Northern Illinois Takes Softball Team's Finale at Liberty

Getting out to a four-run lead over the first three innings, Northern Illinois was a 6-1 winner over the Princeton softball team Sunday morning in the Tigers' final game at the Liberty Softball Classic.
Princeton has another five on the docket at Texas next weekend as the new season continues, taking on McNeese State, Tennessee State twice, Louisiana and host Texas.
Northern Illinois got its first two runs in the second inning when Courtney James had the team's third hit of the inning, driving home both ahead of her. In the third, an error put a runner on for Danielle Stewart, who homered to make it 4-0.Â
Princeton got on the board in the fifth inning when Serena Starks doubled home a leadoff walk to Cate Bade to make it 4-1, but NIU added a run each in the sixth and seventh innings, getting two hits and two walks on the way to the sixth-inning run and a Delaney Ostrowski solo homer in the seventh.
Starks led Princeton with two of the Tigers' five hits on the day.
