South Alabama, Lehigh Take Pair from Softball Team in Florida
March 12, 2023 | Softball
A couple close ones went the opposition's way Sunday as the Princeton softball team continued its spring trip to Florida with a 3-2 loss to South Alabama and a 5-3 loss to Lehigh.
Princeton will conclude its spring trip with a pair of games Wednesday back in Madeira Beach, Fla., with a 10 a.m. start against Chattanooga and a 3 p.m. start against Lehigh. Games will be streamed by FloSoftball.Â
Princeton led early against South Alabama, getting a run in each of the first two innings. Serena Starks led off the game with a single and came home two batters later on a Julia Dumais RBI hit. In the second inning, Cate Bade and Lauren Pappert led off the frame with a walk, and after an unsuccessful fielder's choice and an out on the basepaths, an Allison Ha hit brought home a run.
South Alabama got a run back in the fourth when Victoria Ortiz hit a solo homer, and the Jaguars took the lead in the fifth with a Meredith Keel two-run homer.Â
Alexis Laudenslager went the distance for Princeton against South Alabama, striking out 11 batters.
Lehigh got all five of its runs over the first three innings to take a lead it held the rest of the way.
Emily Cimino hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the Mountain Hawks added two in the second on an error and two hits. Another came home in the third on two hits and an error as Lehigh led 5-0.
In the bottom half of the third, Serena Starks got Princeton on the board with a solo home run, and Dumais and Adrienne Chang had back-to-back doubles to pull Princeton within 5-2. Princeton's final run came home in the fifth after Starks led off with a base hit and came home when Ha followed with a sacrifice bunt and a Lehigh error allowed Starks to score.
