April 12, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
No. 11 Loyola put together a solid second and third quarters and No. 22 Princeton was unable to overcome that push in a 20-10 loss at Sherrerd Field.
First-year attacker Abigail Roberts had a breakout game for Princeton, scoring four times. She entered the game with just one goal in her debut season, but came off the bench early to match that goal and then was a consistent presence on attack for Princeton throughout the game.
Nina Montes added three goals and an assist for the Tigers, while Kate Mulham, Sophie Whiteway and Mackenzie Blake each had one.
For Loyola, Chase Boyle had six points (5g, 1a), while Emily Willis had seven (4g, 3a). Jillian Wilson had a five-point game with two goals and three assists, but was most impactful with 14 draw controls. Katie Detwiler had seven draws for Loyola as the Greyhounds won 21 tto Princeton's 11.
The two teams went toe-to-toe to open the game, with a combined 11 goals in the first quarter -- including eight before the midway mark of the period. mckenzie Blake and Sophie Whiteway scored 40 seconds apart to give Princeton a 2-1 lead 2:25 in, but a subsequent three-goal run from Loyola erased that lead and the Tigers were unable to pull even the rest of the way.
After the back-and-forth first quarter, the Greyhounds put up six goals in each of the next two quarters while Princeton only countered with three total goals to send the game to the fourth quarter with Loyola in front, 19-7.
The Tigers fought through the final frame, putting up three goals -- including two more from Roberts -- to one from Loyola.
The Tigers return to Sherrerd Field on April 15, hosting Brown at 12 p.m. as part of Alumni Weekend celebrating 50 Years of Women's Lacrosse at Princeton.
