Liu to Compete at NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional Opening Monday
May 05, 2023 | Women's Golf
With an at-large selection two Wednesdays ago, Victoria Liu earned at least three more rounds in her sophomore season with the Princeton women's golf team, and at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Liu will be competing to play in one more tournament, the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional will run Monday through Wednesday with a round each day. Liu will begin Monday's round at 9:50 a.m. Live scoring will be available here.
The 12 teams and six individuals will be in pursuit of the five team tickets and one individual bid to the NCAA Championships, set for May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Palm Beach Gardens regional has 39 players in the Golfstat top 250, spread between nine of the 12 competing teams with four of the six individuals also in the top 250, including Liu at No. 123. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, as will the top player not on one of those five teams.
Princeton has had three players in program history advance out of the regional round and to the NCAA Championships, including Mary Moan '97 in 1997, Kelly Shon '14 in 2013, and Maya Walton '20 in 2017.
This year's Ivy League Player of the Year, Liu earned the at-large bid thanks to a season that saw her earn medalist honors at three tournaments, including the Princeton Invitational, the Columbia Classic and the UNCW River Landing Classic. Liu had five top-10 finishes across Princeton's eight stroke-play tournaments between the spring and fall. A year ago, Liu was the Ivy League medalist as a freshman while earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year and first-team All-Ivy honors. Liu competed at the NCAA Stanford Regional last year with Princeton earning the Ivy's automatic team bid, leading the Tigers and tying for 14th overall. Liu's individual regionals bid is the 10th in program history, all at-large, and first since Shon in 2013.
