Serena Starks as the Ivy League Player of the Year, Alexis Laudenslager as the Ivy Pitcher of the Year, and Lisa Van Ackeren as the Ivy Coach of the Year headlined Princeton's share of the All-Ivy League teams, the Ivy League announced Wednesday.
Outfielder Starks and Laudenslager were first-team All-Ivy honorees with third baseman Julia Dumais, shortstop Grace Jackson and outfielder Allison Ha on the second team, and designated player Adrienne Chang an honorable mention. Chang is also Princeton's Academic All-Ivy honoree.
Here's a look at each of Princeton's honorees:
Serena Starks, OF, Sr.
Starks leads the Ivy in batting average (.411), runs scored (36) and hits (65), hitting 40 points better than the next-best eligible player and with 22 more hits than any other Ivy Leaguer. Starks' 65 hits are tied for the seventh-most in a season in program history and most since 1996 (Tara Christie '97, 76). Starks is 14 hits off the single-season record of 79 (Stacy Thurber '96, 79, 1994). Starks was a first-team All-Ivy honoree in 2022, and she is Princeton's first Ivy League Player of the Year since Jamie Lettire '10 in 2008 and the program's 14th since the award began in 1985. Starks was a unanimous Ivy Player of the Year pick.
Alexis Laudenslager, P, Sr.
Laudenslager leads the Ivy in ERA (2.34), .22 runs a game better than the next-lowest ERA, and strikeouts, with 159, 64 more than anyone else in the league. The 159 Ks are the most in a season at Princeton since 2008 (Kristen Schaus '08, 189), and tied for 12th-most in program history. Laudenslager's 332 career Ks are seventh-most in program history and most since Schaus's program-record 833. Laudenslager was the Ivy Pitcher of the Year and a first-team All-Ivy honoree in 2022, and her 2023 award is Princeton's 11th since the award was inaugurated in 1994. She is the seventh player in Ivy history and third Tiger to win at least two Ivy Pitcher of the Year honors, making her the first player to do so since Harvard's Katie Duncan won in 2018 and 2019 and joining Brie Galicinao '02 (2001, 2002) and Erin Snyder '06 (2005, 2006) as Princeton pitchers to win twice.
Lisa Van Ackeren, coach
The Ivy League Coach of the Year award was inaugurated in 2015, and Lisa Van Ackeren now has twice as many awards as any other winner, with the 2023 award as her fourth in the seven honors awarded (not awarded in 2020 and 2021 as the seasons were canceled due to the pandemic). Van Ackeren guided the Tigers to their second straight Ivy title this year and fourth in her tenure, which began in 2013. With 192 career wins, Van Ackeren is third in program history and close to second, with Maureen (Davies) Barron '97 second at 196. Van Ackeren adds the 2023 honor to those won in 2016, 2017 and 2022.
Julia Dumais, 3B, Fr.
Dumais has started all 44 games as a rookie, hitting .261 and driving in 23 runs, third-most on the team. Dumais shares the team lead with seven doubles, and her three homers are tied for second on the team.Â
Grace Jackson, SS, Jr.
Jackson, a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 2022, is hitting .289 this season while starting all 44 games and sharing the team lead with 14 walks. Jackson's 11 stolen bases stand tied for second on the team.Â
