No. 8 Cornell Gets Past No. 12 Princeton
January 19, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
Sarah Paul, Sarah Fillier and Jane Kuehl each had a goal to help try and rally the No. 12-ranked Princeton women's hockey team past No. 8 Cornell on Friday night at Baker Rink, but the visiting Big Red held on for a 5-3 win.
Cornell got out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of first-period goals and another early in the second before Princeton began to chip away. Six minutes into the second, Stefanie Wallace sent a puck ahead to Paul for a breakway that Paul finished with a missile of a shot to get Princeton on the board. Less than four minutes later, Emerson O'Leary took the puck up the ice and found Fillier on the left wing for the finish from the dot, and Princeton was within a goal just before the midway point of the game.
Cornell got one back just more than a minute later, but with five-plus minutes left in the second, Kuehl's goal made it a one-goal game again at 4-3. Kuehl stepped between a Cornell pass at the top of the Big Red attacking zone and took off on a breakaway, slipping it just inside the left post.
An empty-netter made the final 5-3 for the Big Red in the final second of the game.
Uma Corniea had the start and stopped seven of 10 shots in her period-plus of work, and Jennifer Olnowich stopped 18 of 19 as she finished the game.
Princeton will host No. 4/5 Colgate on Saturday at 3 p.m. to wrap the ECAC Hockey weekend. Tickets are available here.
