Husisian Takes Bronze at Qatar Grand Prix
January 31, 2024 | Women's Fencing
Hadley Husisian, an All-American during her rookie season at Princeton in 2023, earned her first senior-level podium finish in finishing third in the senior women's épée event at the Qatar Grand Prix earlier this week.
Husisian went 4-2 in pool bouts, standing at that point 72nd of the more than 200 fencers. Husisian started her run through the elimination bracket defeating Hong Kong's Hailin Chen 15-6, then Peru's Maria Luisa Doig Calderon 15-10, followed by a 15-10 win over France's Coraline Vitalis in the round of 64, then another 15-10 win over Iana Bekmurzova, an individual neutral athlete, in the round of 32, and then a 15-12 win over South Korea's Sera Song in the round of 16. The quarterfinals saw Husisian defeat Italy's Federica Isola 15-10 before a semifinal loss to Hong Kong's eventual champion Man Wai Vivian Kong, 15-14.
Husisian, who is taking the year off from Princeton in her pursuit of an Olympic bid, was the 2023 Ivy League épée champion, a first-team All-Ivy honoree, an NCAA regional champion, and an NCAA national third-place finisher as a first-year.
Katharine Holmes '17 finished 47th at the event, and Kasia Nixon '21 finished 61st. Results can be found here.
