Machulsky Leads Tiger Fencers at October NAC

Rookie Leehi Machulsky turned in a silver-medal finish in the junior women's épée competition at U.S. Fencing's October NAC competition in Atlantic City, N.J., leading Princeton-affiliated fencers.
Machulsky went 6-0 in pool competition to earn the sixth seed in the elimination draw. While winning six straight bouts to get to the final, Machulsky defeated third-seeded Julia Yin 9-8 in the quarterfinals, 15th-seeded Anya Mehrotra 15-5 in the semis, and lost by just a touch, 11-10, to Ruien Xiao in the final.
In the Division I women's épée competition, sophomore Hadley Husisian earned a bronze, going 5-1 in the pool round before winning five bouts to reach the semis. Anna Van Brummen '17 finished sixth in the event while Kasia Nixon '21 finished 10th. Both Van Brummen (2017) and Nixon (2018) were NCAA individual champions during their Tiger careers.
Other top-20 finishes among Tiger fencers in the event included sophomore Alexandra Lee finishing fifth and junior Honor Johnson finishing 11th in the Division I women's saber competition, junior Maia Weintraub finishing seventh and rookie Chin-Yi Kong finishing ninth in the Division I women's foil event. Senior Nicholas Lawson finished 20th in the Division I men's épée event.
