Manfe's Magical Night Drops No. 12 Ohio State, 3-1
November 29, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
Thankful for nights like these!
Â
Princeton scored a goal in each period, with freshman Jake Manfre factoring in on all three for a 3-1 win over No. 12 Ohio State at Hobey Baker Rink.
Â
Arthur Smith made 29 saves in goal, playing a huge role in Princeton killing off all three Buckeye power plays.
Â
Noah de la Durantaye scored first for the Tigers, capping off a sequence where Princeton forced a turnover in the neutral zone before Alex Konovalov fed Jake Manfre who broke in 2-on-1 with de la Durantaye. The rookie fed a cross-ice pass to the senior, and de la Durantaye knocked it in 5:57 into the game for a 1-0 Princeton lead.
Â
With time winding down in the middle stanza, de la Durantaye worked at the top of the zone and slid to Brendan Gorman on the flank who centered a hard pass toward the goal that Manfre got a stick on and tipped in with 7.7 seconds remaining.
Â
The Tigers did not simply hold on, though. They pushed the pace back at Ohio State over the final seven minutes, earning a power play when Riley Thiompson was whistled for a trip deep in the Princeton end with 3:10 to play.
Â
Manfre would add his hard-earned insurance goal with 1:55 to play, taking a cross-ice pass from Gunty and roofing it over the goalie's glove. The play was close to being offside, and Ohio Stet challenged but was unsuccessful and the call stood.Â
Â
The Tigers did not allow a shot to reach goal the rest of the way, with Joshua Karnish and Jaxson Ezman each sacrificing for key blocks in the final minute.
Â
The Tigers and Buckeyes conclude their series at Baker Rink with a 4 p.m. faceoff on November 30.

The win is the first over a Top-20 team for Princeton since a 2-1 (OT) win over No. 8 Cornell on November 18, 2023. It matched the last time Princeton knocked off a ranked non-conference team which came on January 17, 2023 via a 3-2 (OT) defeat of No. 12 Providence.Arty, Arty The Big Stop Party!

That advantage held until the waning moments of the second period when Princeton capitalized on late power play opportunity. No(ah) Better Way To Start!
