Jenkins Leads Fencers Through First Day at NCAAs

Senior saber Ryan Jenkins leads the Princeton women's fencing team after the first of two days of women's competition at the NCAA Championships at Ohio State.
With 10 wins and a +22 touch differential, Jenkins stands second heading into the final day of the women's competition. The top four fencers once the 23 pool bouts are complete on Friday will advance to the semifinals to compete for the individual NCAA title.
As a team, Princeton stands sixth, with 39 wins. Harvard leads at 59 with Columbia second at 52, Notre Dame third at 49, St. John's fourth at 41, and Penn State fifth at 39, ahead of Princeton on touch differential by four.
Fellow saber and rookie Alexandra Lee stands 17th with seven wins. In the foil competition, sophomore Elizabeth He is 18th with six wins, and in the épée competition, the two Tiger fencers are back to back, with junior Jessica Lin ninth and senior Ariana Rausch 10th, both with eight wins.
Competition will start at 9 a.m. on Friday for all three weapons. The individual semifinals will start at 1:30 p.m. in the order of épée, foil, and saber.
