Men's Lightweight Rowing Set To Begin 2024 Season at Navy and Georgetown

PRINCETON – The Defending National Champion Princeton Men's Lightweight Rowing Team begins its 2024 season at Navy and Georgetown on Saturday.
Head coach Marty Crotty's crew will take on Navy at 7:40 a.m. for the Murtaugh Cup with the races at Georgetown for the Fosburg Cup coming later in the day.
The Tigers regained the Murtaugh Cup over Navy last season and have won three of the last four against the Midshipmen. Princeton also has six straight Fosburg Cups over Georgetown.
Princeton won the IRA'S President Cup for the first time since 2010 with the 1V and 2V collecting gold medals in 2023.
The 2V did not lose a race all season as the boat of of Laney Gold-Rappe, Eoin Gaffney, Tim Eilers, Noah Klemmer Domonkos, Peter Skinner, George Middleton, John High, Paul Höselbarth and Tim Scheuritzel rowed away from the Harvard Crimson, crossing the line at 5:48.97, 2.48 seconds in front.
In the Grand Final for the first varsity, the Tigers trailed by two one-hundreds of a second behind Harvard at the 500m but used a 1:25 split to go in front by 1.4 seconds. The Crimson closed the gap to under a half second with 500m left, but the boat of Adam Casler, Nick Aronow, Hidde Lycklama, George Dickinson, Ethan Abraham, Aaron Wenk, Reuben Cook, William Olson and David Van Velden pulled away, finishing with a 5:41.02, 1.8 seconds clear.
It was the sixth time the Tigers have won the top point total at IRAs, the last coming in 2010.
