Following Big Weekend at the Plate, Zhang Named Ivy Player of the Week

Sonia Zhang stepped to the plate 11 times during the Princeton softball team's three-game series with Columbia over the weekend, getting on base eight times and getting recognition as the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week.

Zhang shares the Ivy weekly honor with fellow rookie Justice Malone of Dartmouth after a vote of the league's coaches.

While getting hits in all three games, including going 3 for 3 with a walk in the middle game of the series on Friday, Zhang boosted her batting average from .317 coming into the weekend to .380 heading into Tuesday's home opener against Rider. The final two games of the Columbia series were Zhang's third and fourth multi-hit games of the season. Zhang also homered in the series finale, slugging 1.000 for the weekend.

The weekend lofted Zhang into the team's lead for batting average, and she also leads the team in OPS at .976, in runs scored with 13, in slugging percentage at .540, and in stolen bases, going 7 for 8.

Zhang and the Tigers will host Rider for a Tuesday doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
