Harvard Takes Series Opener; Tigers to Return for Pair on Sunday

Lauren Sablone had a four-RBI game in her return to her home state of Massachusetts, but the Princeton softball team saw Harvard rally for a 14-6, six-inning win on Saturday to open the teams' three-game series.

Princeton scored twice in the first inning, using a Sonia Zhang leadoff double, a Sablone base hit, Allison Ha reaching on an error and an Allie Goodwin ground ball to take a 2-0 lead.

Harvard got a run back in the bottom of the first, but Princeton scored four times in the second as three walks loaded the bases for Sablone, who cleared them with a triple to put Princeton up 5-1. Julia Dumais then sent a sacrifice fly to pick up Sablone for a 6-1 lead.

Harvard, though, rallied for four runs in its half of the second inning to pull within 6-5 and scored five in the fourth to take a 10-6 lead. Two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings gave the Crimson a run-rule win.

Cassidy Shaw threw the first 1 1/3 innings for Princeton before Brielle Wright threw 3 1/3 and Molly Chambers was in the circle for the last two Harvard outs.

Princeton and Harvard will finish the series with a Sunday doubleheader at 12:30 p.m. Sunday's first game will be shown in New England on NESN with streaming for both games available on ESPN+ in the U.S. and Stretch internationally. Live stats will be available here.
