No. 32 Inchauspe & Astreinidis Fall In NCAA Tournament Round Of 16

STILLWATER, Okla. – An incredible 2023-24 season for No. 32 Paul Inchauspe and Filippos Astreinidis of the No. 36 Princeton University men's tennis team came to an end Wednesday evening in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships, as the duo fell to No. 40 Jacob Bullard and Murphy Cassone of No. 20 Arizona State.
While Inchauspe and Astreinidis dropped a close first set, they showed resilience and bounced back in the second. Ultimately, they would fall just short in a nail-biting third set with a final score of 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
"It was a super tight, down to the wire match today and we were just inches away," said Head Coach Billy Pate. "We're really proud of these guys and how they fought to get here and put themselves in a good position. We've been here the last few years in this round, with similarly close losses, and we our expectation will continue to be playing even deeper into the tournament. It was unfortunate Paul was battling a bone bruise - though he had to pull out of singles it was a credit he was able to manage the pain to play doubles. Paul had a sensational first year campaign and the sky is the limit for what he can achieve the next three years. Additionally, we are super proud of how Filippos played his way into the No. 1 doubles position and performed incredibly well with that opportunity. Our whole team is hungry and they will have a great summer of competition and training as we look to achieve much greater heights next year."
Originally scheduled to compete in singles and ranked No. 27 in the nation, Inchauspe was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Inchauspe and Astreinidis became the third doubles duo from Princeton in the past four seasons to advance to the Round of 16. Additionally, they earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors and accumulated a 12-6 record that included six victories over nationally-ranked opponents.
