No. 41 Women's Tennis Downs No. 27 Washington, 4-3, In NCAA Tournament First Round

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 41 Princeton University women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight season Saturday afternoon after outlasting No. 27 Washington in a thrilling battle that went down to the wire, 4-3.
Despite dropping the doubles point, Princeton showed its resilience and bounced back in impressive fashion in singles. Maia Sung earned a victory at the No. 3 position, defeating No. 96 Astrid Olsen 6-2, 6-3, while Alice Ferlito took down Sarah-Maude Fortin, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5. Madeleine Jessup then tied the match up, 3-3, after upending Melissa Sakar at No. 4, 6-3, 7-5.
The match came down to Eva Elbaz and Daria Detkovskaya at No. 6. While Elbaz dropped the first set 3-6, she edged Detkovskaya 7-6 (7-4) in the second and forced a decisive third. She was able to take control and went on to win the match, 3-6, 7-6, (7-6), 6-3 to continue the Tigers' run at the NCAA Championships.
