PRINCETON – Princeton's Roka Tsunehara was named to the Preseason All-Freshman Team by TopDrawerSoccer on Tuesday.
TopDrawerSoccer's preseason awards come days before the start of the 2024 men's college soccer season, identifying key players to watch with three All-American teams of 11 and an additional All-Freshman team.
Tsunehara, listed as one of the three forwards on the All-Freshman team, comes to Princeton from Burlingame, Calif., where he came up through the San Jose Earthquakes academy program after an impressive career with elite youth clubs.
Reaching the MLS Next Cup semifinals in 2022, Tsunehara was named the MLS Next U16 National MVP after emerging as a top scorer with DeAnza Force U16. Due to his success, Tsunehara was also invited to the inaugural MLS Next All-Star Game.
Tsunehara reached the semifinals of the MLS Next Cup again in 2023 with the San Jose Earthquakes U17, playing a pivotal role as a top scorer for his side. His talent and consistent effort earned him a spot on the roster of The Town FC (formerly the San Jose Earthquakes II), where he played in the MLS Next Pro league.
Committed to giving back to his community, Tsunehara has volunteered at local food banks and served as a coach at a non-profit soccer camp, exemplifying his excellence and strength of character on- and off the pitch.
Tsunehara is joining the Tigers alongside a group of talented players in the class of 2028, with Princeton's incoming freshman class ranked 12th nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.
With their first match less than two weeks away, Tsunehara will certainly be one player to watch as the Tigers begin the 2024 campaign.
The Tigers will open their season against Rutgers next Friday, August 30, on the road in Piscataway. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
