Chamberlain, Nazlymov Compete With U.S. Saber Team, Finishing Fifth

Maia Chamberlain '22 and rising sophomore Tatiana Nazlymov competed with the U.S. women's saber team on Saturday, closing their Olympic Games by helping the Americans to a fifth-place finish.
Each competed in a 45-35 quarterfinal loss to eventual silver medalist South Korea, with the Tiger pair combining for seven touches across three bouts. The final two matchups went the U.S.'s way, with the Americans advancing to the fifth-place match with a 45-28 win over Algeria in which Chamberlain competed three times and had 14 touches across those bouts, and with Chamberlain competing three times again in a 45-39 win over Hungary to take fifth. Chamberlain had 12 touches in the three bouts in the fifth-place match.
The team competition concluded the Games debut for each. Nazlymov also competed in the individual women's saber event, taking a 15-14 loss in her round-of-32 match.
The final day of fencing at the 2024 Games will include one Tiger, with Mohamed Hamza '23 competing for Egypt in the men's foil team event. Egypt will take on Team USA in the quarterfinals beginning at 5:50 a.m. ET.
