Scoring
Victoria Liu and Catherine Rao engaged in an all-Tiger dual down the stretch at the Princeton Invitational, with Liu finishing one stroke better to cap a memorable weekend for the home team on its home course.
Liu (-2) and Rao (-1) were the only two players under par in the tournament as Princeton rolled to the overall team championship with an overall team score of 863 (+11) which was a convincing 30 shots better than second-place Georgetown (893). Princeton's 54-hole team score of 863 set a new program-record for low 54-hole score, eclipsing the previous best of 864 set at the 2021 Princeton Invitational. The 54-hole program record was bolstered by a Saturday which saw the Tigers set a new 36-hole low score record of 575 which was one stroke better than its 576 over 36 holes to open the 2023 Columbia Classic.
The team win is the second in two tournaments to start the 2024-25 season, following up a win at the Nittany Lion Invitational. Liu is the second Tiger to claim an individual medalist result this season as well, joining Rao who won the Nittany Lion Invitational as well.
Princeton's had four of the top 11 overall finishers with first-years Abra Richmond (+5) and Olivia Duan (+9) also playing key roles in the team result.
Liu's win is the third at her home event for her career, joining solo medalist honors in 2022 and a shared championship in 2023. The team championship is the first for the Tigers at their home event since 2021.
Liu was -3 in Saturday's first round, carding five birdies al;ong the way. She followed with a +1 in the second round, but birdied three of holes 12-18 to close in fine form to take a two-shot lead into Sunday.
Rao was -2 in the first round on Saturday, and followed with a +2 second round to enter the final round two shots back at even par. She would post four birdies over her opening 13 holes, including four in a stretch of 10 holes, before parring the final five holes to finish one back of Liu.
