Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Commanding Lead On Day 1 Of Navy/Kenyon Meet
January 10, 2025 | Women's Swimming and Diving
PRINCETON, N.J.- If you're wondering what women's college team has won the most NCAA championships all-time, the answer would not be North Carolina soccer or UConn basketball. It would be Kenyon swimming and diving, who has 25 NCAA titles on its resume.
That's the most of any sport, any division. Who already knew that? Princeton head coach Abby Brethauer, herself a part of three of those NCAA championship teams while a Kenyon swimmer.
The presence of her alma mater probably makes this weekend a bit more special for Brethauer. The fact that her team had not competed in more than a month made it special for everyone.
Princeton is welcoming Kenyon and the Naval Academy to DeNunzio Pool this weekend for a two-day tri-meet. Day 1 ended with the Tigers in control, with leads of 143-62 over Navy and 138-67 over Kenyon.
Sophomore Dakota Tucker won two events, taking the 400 individual medley in 4:11.14, which was well under the NCAA B qualifying standard, and the 1,000 freestyle, winning in 9:55.53, a time nearly 13 seconds better than anyone else. Meg Wheeler came in second in the IM in 4:15.39, also under the B standard.
Freshman Jenna Walters won the 200 freestyle and was second in the 50 free while also starting the day on the Tigers' winning 200 free relay team, along with Sabrina Johnston, Ela Noble and Heidi Smithwick. Sabrina Johnston won the 50 free in 22.39, a B standard time, with Walters and Veronique Rossouw behind for a 1-2-3 finish.
Walters led a 1-2-4 Princeton finish in the 200 free, followed by Natalie Farquhar and Rossouw. Princeton had a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100 back with Alexas Pappas, Isabella Korbly, Eleanor Sun and Grace Black. Sun and Smithwick went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly, both bettering the B qualifying time.
Day 2 of the meet begins Saturday at 11.
