Princeton Finishes Tri-Meet Sweep of Navy, Kenyon
January 11, 2025 | Women's Swimming and Diving
There was drama in DeNunzio Pool Saturday afternoon as the weekend's women's tri-meet came to a close. It just didn't involve the home team.
While the race between the visitors — the Naval Academy and Kenyon — came down to the final event, the meets between Princeton and the other two would not be as close. Princeton swept the two, taking down Navy 249-104 and Kenyon 241-112.
Kenyon, a 25-time NCAA Division III champ, is the alma mater of Princeton head coach Abby Brethauer, herself part of three of those national titles.
Princeton took a big lead into Saturday's Day 2 of the meet and extended it early, when Alexa Pappas, Emily Appleton, Isabella Korbly and Ela Noble won the 200 medley relay in 1:40.50. The Tigers ended with a 1-2 finish in the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, with Sabrina Johnston, Jenna Walters, Heidi Smithwick, Ela Noble in first in 3:18.27 and Nicole De Pree, Eleanor Sun, Edie Simecek, Eliza Brown in second, four seconds behind.
Johnston led a 1-2-3-4 Princeton finish in the 100 free with an NCAA B qualifying time of 48.59, leading teammates Sun, Noble and Veronique Rossouw to the wall. Smithwick took the 500 free in 4:49.31 as two other Tigers, Natalie Farquhar and Meg Wheeler, finished second and third.
Princeton also went 1-2-3 in the 200 back, with Alexa Pappas, Grace Black and Wheeler. Sun won the 200 IM in 1:58.24, an NCAA B time.
Princeton also dominated in both diving events with a 1-2-3 finish in the one-meter (Maddie Seltzer, Charlotte Norman, Maggie Squire) and there-meter (Norman, Squire, Seltzer).
Princeton will be at Penn State this coming weekend to compete against the Nittany Lions and Virginia Tech.
