A two-goal second period from host Quinnipiac broke open a one-goal game as the 18th-ranked Bobcats defeated Princeton, 3-0, at M&T Bank Arena.

Arthur Smith finished with 19 saves for the Tigers, while Matej Marinov made 25 to record the shutout.

Quinnipiac struck first 4:56 into the game when Jack Ricketts sprung free on a breakaway after a Princeton turnover just inside the Bobcat zone. Victor Czerneckianair sent a pass between two Tigers to Ricketts who beat Smith to the left post for a 1-0 Bobcat lead.

Nate Benoit doubled Quinnipiac's lead 2:59 into the second period when a wrister from the point found its way through traffic and in.

Just 2:40 later, Quinnipiac took advantage of a Princeton line change and snuck Mason Marcellus in for a short-handed breakaway goal to make the deficit 3-0 for the Tigers.

The Tigers return to Baker Rink for a pair of games against Cornell (January 17) and Colgate (January 18) at 7 p.m.
