Princeton Drops Game Two to No. 4 Hawaii
January 18, 2025 | Men's Volleyball
HONOLULU, H.I. – In a rematch of Wednesday's contest, the Princeton men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 17-25, 23-25) to the #4 University of Hawaii on Friday night.
First-year Mason Rice led the Tigers with 11 kills for 12.5 points on the night. Nyherowo Omene was behind him with eight kills and 10 points.
Henry Wedbush recorded 23 assists, while defensively, Roan Alviar led the team with five digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers were able to match Hawaii's energy entering the first set, with Rice registering four kills before the back half of the set. A 5-0 run from Hawaii would put the set just out of reach of the Tigers, though, bringing the score to 11-21. Despite a few late kills, Princeton would drop the set 17-25.
Set two followed a similar story as the Tigers and Rainbow Warriors remained neck-and-neck through the first half. Again, Hawaii broke out with a 4-0 run to build up its lead, which it maintained as the set ended 17-25 again.
In the third set, Princeton was able to ramp up the offensive pressure as the set was tied at 9-9 apiece. The Tigers were able to keep pace with Hawaii with four more kills from Rice and three from Omene, bringing the set to a close score of 22-24.
Princeton would add another point on an attack error by Hawaii, but the same on the Tiger side would end the set 25-23, with Hawaii taking the match 3-0.
