Tigers Split Matches with Rider, Fall 23-19
January 24, 2025 | Wrestling
PRINCETON, N.J. – Splitting matches with the Broncs, the Princeton wrestling team fell 23-19 to Rider at home in Jadwin Gym on Friday night. Luke Stout, Sebastian Garibaldi, Marc-Anthony McGowan, Drew Heethius and Eligh Rivera earned wins in the dual.
First-year McGowan earned a dominant tech fall in his debut at home, notching six takedowns to get the win over Noah Michaels, 19-3.
Joining him in the five-point category tonight is senior captain Stout, who earned a tech over Brock Zurawski in his first match in Jadwin this season, adding to his lead with two near falls to win 22-5.
Garibaldi gutted out a 2-0 decision over Collin French, while Drew Heethius was able to get a takedown early in his bout with Will Betancourt to take the lead and ultimately get the decision 5-0.
Rivera's win over #29 McKenzie Bell was a sudden victory thriller, as a contested call early in the match kept Rivera in it, before the clock ran out with Bell and Rivera tied at five apiece. As the whistle blew to start the overtime period, Rivera wrestled hard to get a takedown in under a minute, electrifying Jadwin and the Tiger bench.
Ultimately, as the points added up down the stretch, Rider was able to overtake the early Princeton lead, and the Tigers dropped the dual meet at home.
Up next, Princeton will travel to New York City to begin Ivy play on the road at Columbia, with the first bout hitting the mat at 2 p.m.
