Men's Hockey Beats Brown In Overtime, 5-4
December 28, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
It took extra time, but Princeton closed out the 2025 portion of its 25-26 season with a victory as the Tigers knocked off Brown, 5-4, in overtime of a non-conference game at Hobey Baker Rink.
The game-winner went in off the shin of Jaxson Ezman with 0:53 to play in overtime, as his net drive redirected a Kai Greaves wrister for Princeton's second power-play goal of the night.
Princeton's six game winning streak on home ice is tied for the longest active home-ice win streak in the nation alongside Cornell and RIT.
Kai Daniells had a three-point night for the Tigers, scoring twice and adding an assist on the game-winner.
Tyler Shea made 46 saves in goal for the Bears as Princeton landed 51 total shots on goal – its most in a game since a similar 51-shot output  on 2/16/18 against RPI in a 7-2 win.
The Tigers were 2-for-6 on the power play, scoring twice on the man advantage for the first time this season
The Bears opened the scoring 12:46 into the game when Mike Cataldo deflected home an Owen Dyer shot.
Princeton answered with 3:03 to play in the opening period when Jake Manfre found himself open in front for a close-range flip home after a fantastic solo effort from David Jacobs to work the puck from behind the Brown net away from defenders before quickly changing direction and sending a pass through to Manfre for his seventh goal of the season.
A back-and-forth second period saw the two teams combine for four goals, three of which came from Princeton players as the Tigers clawed their way to a 4-3 lead after two periods of play.
Brendan Gorman struck first in the middle frame, finishing off a pretty power-play rush with his sixth goal of the season 2:53 into the period off a pass from Jaxson Ezman.
Princeton countered quickly with two Kai Daniells goals 0:48 apart. The first came in transition when Tyler Rubin funneled a pass to a charging Jake Manfre who fed a pass cross-ice to Daniells at the far post with 4:00 to play in the second.
Less than a minute later, Daniells deftly redirected a Nick Marciano shot over Shea's left shoulder for his second of the game and Princeton's first lead of the afternoon.
Brown levelled the game at 4-4 with 6:20 to play via a Ben Poitras goal which threaded its way through traffic and inside the right post.
As time was winding down, Princeton called for a video review of a play deep in the Brown end and the ensuing review resulted in a five-minute major being assessed to Brown's Zadvernyuk for spearing. The Tigers were unable to score in the final 0:48 of regulation, and needed almost all of the power play time in overtime before Greaves sent a last-ditch shot on the power play to net that clanged off Ezman's shin and in for the win.
Princeton will return to ECAC play on January 2 and 3, hosting Dartmouth and Harvard at Hobey Baker Rink for 7 p.m. faceoffs.
