Seniors Shine On Senior Night To Secure Shootout Point In Baker Finale
February 22, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton's seniors started their final home game at Hobey Baker Rink with an emotional ceremony alongside their family and friends, and they ended it with a similarly emotional celebration alongside their teammates after a thrilling win in the shootout over Yale.
Ethan Pearson stopped 3-of-5 shootout attempts faced, while fellow seniors Alex Konovalov and Noah de la Durantaye scored on their final shots at Hobey Baker Rink.
In the end, a goal from David Jacobs was the deciding goal scorer as he scored in the fifth round. Pearson followed with a stop of a David Andreychuk attempt to set off a raucous celebration to cap a special night.
Princeton's two points secured in the game broke a deadlock with the Bulldogs in the ECAC standings and move Princeton into 10th place, two points behind RPI for ninth and six points behind Yale for eighth.
Nick Marciano and Miles Gunty scored for the Tigers, with assists in the game from David Jacobs and Jayden Sison.
Nick Marciano scored early for the Tigers, depositing the rebound of a David Jacobs shot 1:40 into the game. Marciano's shot did not cross the line by much, and was originally ruled no-goal on the ice. After a quick review from the officials, it was clear that there was white space between the puck and the goal line and Princeton was in front quickly.
The momentum quickly flipped towards Yale, as the Bulldogs scored twice in the final 6:20 of the middle frame to tie the game, 2-2. Micah Berger had the first for Yale, driving the net and tapping in a Will Dineen pass just 1:39 after Princeton had taken a 2-0 lead.
Kalen Szeto tied the game with 1:49 to play in the second, swatting in the rebound of a Iisai Pesonen shot from the point that had snuck away from Ethan Pearson who made the original stop.
The Tigers had a power-play in overtime after Yale was called for tripping with 2:01 to play in the extra period. Noah de la Durantaye had four shots on the power play, one hitting the post, but was unable to find the game-winner.
The Tigers conclude the 2024-25 regular season with a trip to the North Country for 7 p.m. tilts with St. Lawrence (February 28) and Clarkson (March 1).
