Men’s Volleyball Gets Series Sweep Over No. 19 NJIT with 3-1 Win in Dillon

PRINCETON, N.J. – With a dominant team performance, the Princeton men's volleyball team defeated no. 19 NJIT 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 25-13) at home in Dillon Gym on Friday night.
Nyherowo Omene led the team with 16 kills, while Henry Wedbush dished up a team-high 34 assists.
Tristan Whitfield had a standout performance, notching three service aces on the night while also making a career-high 10.0 total blocks on the night.
With the win, Princeton improves to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the EIVA, while NJIT falls to 7-5 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
How It Happened
Princeton opened set one with a strong 25-15 win with Omene making four kills and Mason Rice contributing another four, as the Tigers built up an early lead and outpaced the Highlanders throughout the entirety of the set.
NJIT was able to answer in set two, trying to get ahead early but the Tigers were able to stay close and tie the match at 14-14. Still, NJIT was able to remain a few points ahead, calling the set in their favor with two aces and a score of 19-25.
Looking to regain the lead, the Tigers entered set three with energy, scoring in multiple 3-0 runs that helped them gradually build up a lead as Omene notched five kills of the team's 11. NJIT could not keep up with the Tigers, who forced eight Highlander attack errors over the course of the set to hold them to .069 hitting. The Tigers took the set 25-21, leading the match 2-1.
In set four, Princeton dominated defensively, forcing 12 attack errors and -.240 hitting from NJIT with 11.0 blocks, five of which came from Whitfield. Offensively, it was Mason Rice with four kills, plus another two each from Ryan Vena and Jameson Vaccaro, that helped the Tigers get ahead and take the set swiftly, 25-13.
