Scatchard Advances to Mile Final at NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Mena Scatchard will advance to the women's mile final at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., after automatically qualifying with a standout second-place finish in heat one and a time of 4:35.40.

Scatchard positioned herself at the back of the pack to start the race, where she stayed poised and focused as she kept pace with the group.

With three laps remaining, Scatchard began to make her move, kicking out several runners to position herself in third.

Hitting the bell lap, Scatchard took off, with just her and Virginia's Margot Appleton out in front as they zoomed around the oval.

With space, Scatchard crossed the finish line in 4:35.40 to secure her spot in tomorrow's final. The time is seven seconds off from her personal best seed time of 4:28.43.

Scatchard will now look to the NCAA Indoor mile final tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., as the senior looks to cap off her amazing career with a strong performance at nationals.
