PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's lightweight rowing team will open 2025 on Mar. 22 at Lake Carnegie against Navy at 10 a.m. and Georgetown at 3 p.m. The Tigers will compete against Navy for the Murtaugh Cup and Georgetown the Fosburgh Cup.
Princeton will aim to win the Joseph Murtaugh Cup, named after the former Princeton and U.S. lightweight rowing coach, for the third consecutive season. The Tigers lead the all-time series with Navy, 12-3 and are 4-1 in the past five seasons. Last season, the 1V finished three seconds ahead of the Midshipmen with a time of 5:46.3.
The Tigers will aim to win the Fosburgh Cup against the Hoyas for the eight-straight season. In 2024, Princeton's 1V finished in 5:38.6 and Georgetown's 5:50.3 as the Tigers earned the win over the Hoyas.
Princeton will strive to continue its run of success in 2025, as the Tigers finished third overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships in 2024. Princeton's IV collected silver in its Grand Final, earning a medal for the sixth time in its last eight IRA Grand Finals.
