No. 4 Princeton Takes Down No. 18 Dartmouth 11-8 As Mackesy Moves Into Second Place All-Time In Goals
March 29, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
On a day when the elements brought snow, sleet, freezing rain, regular rain and temps that never got above 35 to Hanover, N.H., the biggest obstacle for the Princeton men's lacrosse team to overcome against Dartmouth Saturday was 47.
And that had nothing to do with the weather.
No. 4 Princeton held off No. 18 Dartmouth 11-8 a Saturday when all of the aforementioned weather conditions fell on Scully-Fahey Field. The win came despite a massive performance by Dartmouth goalie Mason Morel, who made 21 saves to offset a 60-27 edge in shots by the Tigers.
The win improved the Tigers to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League. It also gave Princeton its sixth win over a top 20 RPI team.
Princeton goalie Ryan Croddick also had an impressive day, making nine of his 13 saves in the fourth quarter. The best save of the day was Croddick's, a sprawling one-on-one save in the final minute — albeit after his own turnover — and the Tigers up 10-8.
All three of Princeton's attackmen had four-point days, including Coulter Mackesy, whose three goals and one assist moved him past Chris Massey into second place all-time at Princeton in career goals with 148, 15 away from Jesse Hubard's career record, and fourth all-time in points with 219, 13 away from Ryan Boyle for third.
Colin Burns also had three goals and an assist, including one with 2:48 to go in the first half that put the Tigers up 6-5 at the break after Dartmouth had led 4-1 earlier in the second quarter, with Princeton's goal from shortstick defensive midfielder Cooper Mueller. Burns also scored 32 seconds into the second half, making it a two-goal game. Princeton would lead by as many as three at 8-5 and shut out the Big Green for the first 21:07 of the second half, but back-to-back goals made it an 8-7 game with 4:53 to play. Nate Kabiri, who had a two-goal, two-assist game, built it back to two goals with a huge score with 2:22 left before Dartmouth scored 26 seconds later.
Princeton then sealed it with goals from Mackesy and Jackson Green, as well as Croddick's late save.
Princeton will have a quick turnaround to host Lehigh at 7 Tuesday and then Vermont Saturday at noon. Â
