Rising senior Ally Murphy and rising junior Zoe Markesini have been selected as the 2025 captains for the Princeton women's soccer team.
"I am pleased to announce that Ally Murphy '26 and Zoe Markesini '27 have been named co-captains for 2025," Princeton women's soccer coach Sean Driscoll said. "They embody exceptional character and will lead with the authenticity, empathy, and selflessness that this team requires. At their core, they are driven by a profound love of the program and their teammates, and I can think of nothing more important to guide them in their new role. While there are an abundance of qualities to admire in Ally and Zoe, what stands out most is their resilience and acute awareness of what truly matters. In short, they are mature beyond their years. A healthy dose of gratitude and appreciation, based on their life experiences, combines perfectly with a competitive fire that burns brightly. Our staff is excited to see what the future holds for the next iteration of PWS with Ally and Zoe at the helm."
Murphy rebounded from missing the 2023 season due to injury to play in 11 games during the Ivy League championship season of 2024, scoring her first career goal in an 8-0 win over Brown that ended the Bears' four-year Ivy unbeaten streak.Â
Markesini has been a regular on the Tiger back line since her arrival, playing in 32 career games despite missing the opening stretch of the 2024 season while representing Canada in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. In 14 games last season, Markesini had four assists in helping Princeton to the Ivy League double, as the team took the league and tournament titles. Markesini contributed to Princeton holding opponents to 0.63 goals per game last season.
