Mackesy, Burns Help No. 4 Princeton Past Vermont 10-5
April 05, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
Here's something of a statistical anomaly: The Vermont men's lacrosse team had more players score a goal than Princeton did Saturday afternoon, even though the Tigers had twice as many goals as the Catamounts.
That doesn't happen too often. It can when you have players like Coulter Mackesy and Colin Burns.
Mackesy scored four goals as he continue his climb towards the Princeton career record and Burns had his third-straight three-goal game to lead the fourth-ranked Tigers to a 10-5 win over Vermont in the first meeting ever between the two. Vermont had five players with one goal each.
Princeton led 6-0 into the second quarter, 7-1 at halftime and 10-3 at the end of the third. The Tigers improved to 8-2 on the season, with three Ivy League opponents — home against Brown, at Penn, home against Yale — to finish the regular season.
Mackesy scored the first three of the game and had four of the Tigers' first five. The senior now has 154 career goals, second-best ever at Princeton and nine away from tying Jesse Hubbard's career record.
Ryan Croddick made 11 saves as Princeton outshot Vermont 50-28. Catamount goalie Ryan Daly had a career-high 20 saves.
Hunter Spiess had eight ground balls in his first career start. Michael Bath had two caused turnovers, moving him into sole possession of third place all-time at Princeton, with 57.
