Andrew Samuels Named Ivy Defensive Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Andrew Samuels was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The award comes after Samuels posted his third-consecutive shutout on Saturday night as the Tigers took a 2-0 win over UAlbany at home. He now boasts a GAA of 0.40, which ranks 14th nationally and second in the Ivy League.

Samuels, a junior from Burlingame, Calif., made two saves in the contest, putting up the same numbers in Princeton's 2-0 victory over UMass on Tuesday night.

Last Saturday, Samuels picked up a clean sheet against Villanova as the Tigers won 3-0. He made two saves in the contest, including one on a penalty kick which kept the Wildcats locked out of the match.

With Samuels between the posts for all of their first five games, the Tigers rank 10th as a team nationally in goals-against.

Samuels and the Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they head to Seton Hall for a midweek non-conference matchup. Kick off is set for 6:56 p.m. in South Orange, N.J.
