Palumbo Named USA Lacrosse Preason Midfielder Of The Year
January 21, 2026 | Men's Lacrosse
The 2025 season for Chad Palumbo ended with a six-goal, six-shot performance in Princeton's 19-18 NCAA quarterfinal loss to Syracuse. The last five of those goals came on a knee that needed to be surgically repaired after the game.
That dominant performance ended a junior year that saw Palumbo establish career highs in goals and assists while earning second-team All-American honors. Wth his senior season is still a little more than three weeks away, Palumbo has added another preseason honor to his resume.
One day after being named a USA Lacrosse Preseason first-team All-American, Palumbo has now been named the organization's preseason Division I Midfielder of the Year. Palumbo becomes a finalist for the overall Division I Player of the Year, which will be announced Thursday, along with Attackman of the Year Joey Spillina of Syracuse, Defenseman of the Year Shawn Lyght of Notre Dame, Specialist of the Year Aidan Maguire of Duke and Goalie of the Year Caleb Fyock of Ohio State.
Palumbo put up 28 goals and 19 assists last year and enters his senior year with 83 career points on 53 goals and 30 assists. His six goals against Syracuse tied Princeton's single-game NCAA record and were the most ever in the NCAA tournament by a Tiger midfielder.
Princeton's season opens Feb. 14 at home against Penn State, beginning a four-game stretch in 15 days that sees the Tigers take on the Nittany Lions, travel to Maryland and return home for Syracuse and North Carolina.
