Berube Named To Mid-Major Coach of the Year Mid-Season Watch List
January 28, 2026 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON – Carla Berube has been named to the 2026 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach the Year Award midseason watch list presented by Her Hoop Stats.
After producing an .800 winning percentage in 17 years at Tufts University, Berube has somehow been even better at Princeton, securing a 138-26 mark (.841 winning percentage) along with four Ivy League titles, three Ivy Tournament crowns and two NCAA Tournament wins.
In addition, the Tigers have gone 70-5 against Ivy foes and have played in the postseason each year that Berube has coached.
This season, the Tigers are 17-1 overall on a 15-game winning streak (third longest in the nation at this point) with a net ranking of 39 and a non-conference strength of schedule of 20. Princeton's No. 19 ranking in the AP poll is the highest it's been ranked since the 2014-15 season. It's the fourth time in the Berube tenure that Princeton has collected a 15+ game winning streak.
To be eligible for this award, coaches must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this
award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC.
The 20-person preseason watch list was announced in October. The five finalists for the award will be announced in March, with the winner being named around the Final Four. Coaches will
be assessed across the entire season, including postseason play. Beyond on-court success, other factors such as recruiting, preseason expectations, injuries, and tactical coaching will also be
weighed when assessing each candidate. Inclusion on previous watch lists is not a requirement to be considered for future watch lists.
