Men's Hockey Falls At No. 5/5 Quinnipiac, 4-1
February 14, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
A quick two goals to open the third period broke open a close game at M&T Bank Arena as No. 5/5 Quinnipiac downed Princeton, 4-1.
David Jacobs had a power-play goal for the Tigers, with assists off the sticks of Tyler Rubin and Jaxson Ezman.
Arthur Smith made 26 saves for the Tigers while Matej Marinov made 21 for the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac scored first via an Aaron Schwartz one-timer just past the midway mark of the opening period
Less than three minutes later, the Tigers connected for a power-play goal of its own. Tyler Rubin pumped a slapshot from the top of the zone on net, and Jaxson Ezman got a piece before David Jacobs stepped into the rebound and sent it home to level the game at 1-1.
The Bobcats netted the only goal of the second period 0:22 in when Elliott Groenewold snuck free at the far post to tap in a cross-ice pass and give Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead.
Princeton thought it tied the game early in the third when Julin Facchinelli stuffed the puck home in the first minute, but the goal was waved off for goaltender interference and that call was upheld after a Princeton challenge.
Moments later, Ethan Wyttenbach capitalized on a Princeton turnover at its own blueline and broke free clean to tuck in his 19th goal of the season and give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead.
Antonin Verrault then added further insurance with a breakaway goal of his own after Groenewald slipped a stretch pass through two defenders to spring Verrault to make it 4-1.
The two teams reconvene at Hobey Baker Rink on February 15 for a 4 p.m. faceoff to complete the weekend series.
