Softball Splits Home Opener With Binghamton

Splitting its first home games of the 2026 season Saturday at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field, the Princeton softball team fell 6-1 in the opener before responding with a 7-0 win over Binghamton in the nightcap. The series will conclude Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
In the opener, Binghamton struck early and controlled the game from the start. The Bearcats scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Princeton was held scoreless through the first six innings before breaking through in the seventh, but Binghamton finished with a 6-1Â victory.
Princeton (8-8) totaled five hits in the game, including a double by Julia Dumais, while Julieta Roa recorded two hits. Binghamton pitcher Savanna McHale went the distance, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings.
The Tigers bounced back in game two behind a dominant pitching performance from Cassidy Shaw and an 11-hit offensive effort. Shaw threw a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits with three walks and striking out eight to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Princeton broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth before pulling away with three runs in the sixth.
Graciela Dominguez led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Julia Dumais finished with two hits and four RBIs, including a triple. Sonia Zhang drove in two runs, and Abby Hornberger added two hits and scored twice in the 7-0 victory.
