Tigers Fall to Charleston, 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton men's volleyball team fell to Charleston, 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 17-25) on Friday night in Dillon Gym.
Owen Mellon led the Tigers in kills with 11 on the night with .292 hitting. Tristan Whitfield made three block assists in the contest for a team-high.
Charleston took the early advantage in set one, making a 3-0 run to edge out the Tigers, 4-3, before forcing a Tiger timeout at 10-5. Continuing to outpace the Princeton offense, Charleston took the set, 25-17.
Set two saw an early lead for the Golden Eagles. Responding, the Tigers came back to lead 9-8 and force a Charleston timeout.
Off a kill by Mellon, Princeton took a three-point lead at 12-9 - its largest advantage of the game. Charleston responded with a 3-0 run, though, and closed the deficit. With the two-point advantage the other way, the Tigers kept pace with the Golden Eagles before they pulled away again at 22-18, ultimately taking the set.
Set three was an early back-and-forth, with an authoritative kill by Ambrose Engling tying it at 4-4. With Charleston going ahead, the Tigers called a timeout at 8-4. Princeton continued to push, but the Charleston defense remained solid as they held Princeton to .174 hitting on the night.
Coming back from an eight-point deficit, the Tigers narrowed it using a Werner ace and a kill and a block by Mellon, but Charleston ultimately took the set 25-17.
