Scott Syverson went 16-8 as a junior in goal for the Tigers as he carried the bulk of the workload for the Tigers. Syverson made 181 saves and stopped 52% of the shots he faced. He also had 34 steals. On eight occasions, Syverson made 10 or more saves in a game, and the team was 4-4 in those games. Syverson made a career-high 14 saves in the Eastern semifinal win over St. Francis and followed that with a 13-save performance the next day against Navy in the title game. Syverson was named a second-team All-Eastern selection for those performances.
Syverson went 10-4 in 25 games played as a sophomore and made 108 saves on the 196 shots he faced. He made a season-high 11 saves in a win against Salem and also stopped 10 in a loss to UCLA. Syverson earned wins against St. Francis, George Washington, Bucknell and Cal Baptist.
Syverson went 10-0 in games as a freshman and appeared in several other contests throughout the season. He got his first action in the fourth quarter of a win over UC Santa Cruz and earned a shutout of Fordham in his first complete game. Syverson earned five CWPA wins during the season and made a season-high nine saves on two occasions, in wins over George Washington and Salem International. He also backstopped Princeton to its first two wins at Southern’s.
Syverson was a four-year letterwinner at Coronado and a two-time captain of the Coronado Peninsula club team. He played for the United States Men’s National Youth Water Polo A Team in 2002 and 2003 and was an All-America selection at the 2001 Junior Olympics and at the 2003 20-and-under national tournament. Syverson was also a second-team all-CIF pick in 2002 and 2003 and the California Interscholastic Federation Water Polo Sportsmanship Award winner in 2002.
