Notes about the program:
• Field hockey was one of the original women’s varsity sports introduced at Princeton in the 1971-72 academic year. The others were basketball, crew, squash, swimming and tennis.• Princeton, which became the first Ivy League school to advance to the NCAA championship game in 1996, won the program and league’s first NCAA championship in 2012. The Tigers have advanced to the NCAA Final Four nine times (1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2009, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019).
• Four times the Tigers played for the NCAA title. They won their first title when the then-No. 2 Tigers defeated No. 1 North Carolina, 3-2, on Nov. 18, 2012. Princeton has been invited to the NCAA tournament a total of 26 times. Princeton has played in 18 quarterfinals, nine semifinals and four championship games.
• Amy MacFarlane ’98, Katie Reinprecht ’13, Kathleen Sharkey ’13, Michelle Cesan ’14 and Julia Reinprecht ’14 are the only players in Ivy League field hockey history to earn four first-team All-Ivy honors. Â
• Beth Bozman was named the 1996 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Kristen Holmes-Winn captured the award in 2012.
• Princeton set single-season marks for wins (21) and assists (78) in 2012, and points (284) and goals (109) in 1996.
• Princeton hosted the National Field Hockey Championships in 1979 and finished sixth.
