Men's Rowing - Lightweight

- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Michael Lombardi is in his fourth season as the assistant coach of the Princeton men's lightweight crew. Besides assisting head coach Marty Crotty in all phases of the program, he serves as the head coach of the Tiger novice eight.
Two years ago, the freshman eight gave the program a strong feeling about its future. The Tigers placed second in the Eastern Sprints grand final (which helped Princeton place second in the team points race), and that followed a 6-2 regular season record. Last season, when novice were able to compete at the varsity level (which four did, in either the V8 or 2V8), he still led a novice eight to the Sprints grand final.
In his first season, Lombardi led the freshman eight to a 7-2 record in the regular season and the grand final at the EARC Championships. The Tigers ended fourth in the final race, though they were within one second of the medal stand, and they were within two seconds of a silver finish.
Lombardi is plenty familiar with Princeton crew. He rowed for the Tiger heavyweights, including two years on the first varsity, and he graduated in 2010 with a degree in history. He also served as a counselor during the 2010 rowing camp, and plans to work as a coach for the 2011 camp.
A St. Joe's Prep graduate, Lombardi served as captain and led his high school program to a second-place finish at the 2005 Henley Royal Regatta. He was also selected to the Junior National Team in 2006.
