Amy Altig is in her third year as an assistant coach with the Princeton women’s lacrosse program, having joined the staff in the summer of 2007.
She works primarily with the Tigers’ goalies, including All-America goalkeeper Erin Tochihara. A first-team all-region selection, Tochihara finished the season ranked second in the Ivy League in goals against average and sixth in the nation, was first in save percentage in the league and fourth in the nation in that category.
In her two years at Princeton, the Tigers have made the NCAA Tournament both years and won first round games each year. Princeton has combined for a 27-9 record and has held opponents to 8.75 goals per game.
Prior to coming to Princeton, Altig was the first assistant coach at the University of Richmond for two seasons. During her tenure, Richmond won a pair of Atlantic 10 titles and made the NCAA tournament twice. Her work with the defense and goalies helped Richmond lead the conference with a goals against average of 8.10. Under Altig’s tutelage, goaltender Jackie Swansburg earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2007.
Altig was a two-time all-conference goaltender at James Madison University. As a senior, Altig ranked in the top 20 in Division I in both save percentage and goals against average. She also played in the North/South STX Senior All-Star Game that season.
Her lacrosse experience doesn’t end at the collegiate level. She was an alternate on the 2009 US World Cup Team and has been a member of multiple US Elite and Development Teams. During the summer of 2008, she was a member of the U.S. Touring Team that competed in the Prague Cup in the Czech Republic.
A native of Millersville, Md., Altig earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports management from JMU in 2005.
